Unit Cost of Production programs offered in December and January

Nebraska Extension Unit Cost of Production programs will examine feed and costs for the cow and calf.

Nebraska Extension will host two Unit Cost of Production programs in December at the Community Building in Atkinson and in January at the Legion Hall in Burwell. The programs will cover the fundamentals of calculating the economic unit cost of production for four of the most common enterprises on the ranch.  

Topics will include:

  • Cost per Animal Unit Month of Forage  
  • Cost per Ton of Hay
  • Cost to Run a Cow for a Year / Cost per Calf Produced
  • Cost to Develop a Stocker/Yearling Heifer and Bred Replacement.

The first program is on December 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Atkinson. The second one will be held on January 27 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Burwell. 

The cost of the program is $50 and includes the noon meal plus a Unit Cost of Production notebook. Register at least one week ahead by contacting Bethany Johnston at 402-336-2760 or by email bjohnston3@unl.edu
